Veterans Mental Health care – relocation of Ward 17 and the PTSD Centre for Excellence
Tuesday 24 November, 2015
On the 18th November 2015 members of the Building Design and Model of Care working parties came together for a workshop at the Mantra on Hindmarsh Square. The purpose of the workshop was to provide an update on the current status of the project and to discuss the key priorities that will influence the future design of the new building.
Ms Sinéad O’Brien, Chair of the Oversight Panel opened the session and provided details of the journey to date. Following on from this, participants were asked to consider the key elements required when agreeing to the design of the new Veterans Mental Health Facility.
Mr Peter Tynan and Ms Sam Hay from Greenway Architects took members through a presentation that included both the details of the work they had completed to date as well as a potential option that included the Intermediate Care Centre (ICC). Following discussion the full group requested that the architects progress with the design that incorporates the ICC facility.
Incorporating the ICC building provides additional green space to allow for increased flexibility when designing the children’s play area, physical activity precinct and quiet space. It also supports an improved flow for clinical and non-clinical work and improved car parking.
The facility will still be purpose built incorporating approximately two thirds as a new build and one third redeveloped ICC.
Design work will continue in collaboration with the working parties. It is expected that the draft concept design will be made available on the Transforming Health website in the near future.
