Uni SA partner with Veterans SA on Narratives of War
Friday 13 November, 2015
The University of South Australia has partnered with Veterans SA, for the first time, to deliver a landmark public symposium marking the Anzac Centenary.
Entitled ‘Reflections of War’, the symposium showcases the latest research from the University’s Narratives of War Research Group, in addition to presenting national and international speakers.
Taking place in Adelaide on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November, keynote speakers include Rob Manton, Director of Veterans SA; Felicity Packard, screenwriter Anzac Girls; and Dr Azer Kemaloğlu, visiting Professor from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Special Guest ‘Rat of Tobruk’, Bill Corey OAM, will be in conversation with Simon Kelly.
Open to the South Australian community, the symposium offers free easy access to a broad range of papers and presentations for reflective consideration during the Anzac Centenary. Interested individuals and community groups will have the chance to hear current research and writing undertaken by scholars and researchers specialising in the field.
All members of the public are invited to attend the free event held at University of South Australia’s Magill Campus.
“Veterans SA is proud to support the Reflections of War Symposium in the year of the Anzac Centenary,” said Rob Manton, Director Veterans SA.
“The symposium offers a unique opportunity to hear from leading scholars in the field of commemoration and narratives of war.”
Explaining, expanding and keeping alive the stories behind conflicts helps Australians understand their connection with the rest of the world, symposium co-chair Professor Kerry Green said.
“The symposium delves deep into Australia’s psyche because in it we hear individual and intensely personal responses, as well as institutional and historical perspectives,” he said.
