The people of South Australia are being asked to observe Anzac Day with traditional solemnity as well as generosity. Now though, in a thoroughly modern development, the RSL is urging smartphone owners everywhere to respond by going to the dedicated RSL Anzac Adelaide app.
The app is available through the iTunes App Store (for iPhones) or Google Play Store (for android phones). Once it’s downloaded, six options appear. They direct potential donors to the RSL’s Anzac Appeal and to information on dawn services and Adelaide’s Anzac Day March.
Donors to the annual RSL Anzac Appeal – which supports veterans and their families in times of hardship – can contribute simply by tapping the phone.
“The RSL Anzac Appeal encourages all Australians to recognise those who served in war, those who fought for freedom – and, who in so many instances, made the supreme sacrifice,” says the chief executive of the RSL (SA/NT), Julia Langrehr.
Money raised through the appeal will, as always, enable the RSL to support past and present Defence personnel with medical assistance, counselling and advocacy, emergency accommodation, and food supply.
These critical services have been a feature of the RSL ever since its foundation in 1916. It continues to nurture and sustain the interests of serving and former Defence Force members. And these days, practical support is as easy as a single tap on a touch-screen.
