Across the state, South Australians will gather at Anzac Day services on Tuesday 25 April 2023 to pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of those who have defended and protected Australia throughout our country’s military history.

Anzac Day is commemorated on 25 April each year, the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli in 1915, a campaign that eventually claimed the lives of more than 8,000 Australians.

Australian sailors, soldiers and aviators have contributed to defence, peacekeeping, humanitarian, and emergency assistance operations since the start of the Boer War in 1899 through to the present day. Tragically, over this time, more than 102,000 lives have been lost, with many more impacted by their service experiences.

On Anzac Day, we also acknowledge the service and sacrifice of the families of those who have worn our nations uniform and recognise the ongoing support that they provide that enables our courageous ADF members to carry out the duties required of them.

The 2023 Anzac Day events will be conducted by the RSL State Branch, beginning with the Dawn Service from 6.00 am at the National War Memorial on North Terrace, followed by the Anzac Day March commencing at 9.30 am and concluding with the Cross of Sacrifice Service Remembrance Service at the Cross of Sacrifice at 11.30 am.

Free travel will be available across Adelaide Metro services for current and former military personnel who are in uniform and people wearing service medals or carrying a veteran’s identification card.

Dawn services will also be held at RSL Sub-branches and memorials across the state. Information about local Anzac Day services can be found at www.rslsa.org.au/anzac-day

Lest we forget.

So many South Australians have a strong connection to Anzac Day and what it represents for all Australians.

It is a sacred day and one which provides us all with the important opportunity to thank those whose selflessness and dedication to service safeguards our freedom and protects this beautiful country we call home.
