Veteran-owned architecture and design firm Actus has expanded into South Australia, with a strong focus on employing veterans.

As the only veteran-led architecture firm in the country, Actus brings unique military insights and experience to support Defence-related infrastructure projects in the state.

Founded by Managing Director Adam Goodwin, a 14-year Royal Australian Navy veteran, Actus delivers tailored architectural, landscaping and interior design solutions for Defence and civilian clients.

With a passion for architecture and leadership skills, honed through years of managing complex naval operations, Adam successfully transitioned into the civilian workforce, applying his expertise to the fields of architecture and interior design.

Today his Perth-based company supports Defence infrastructure projects nationwide and is committed to supporting other veterans in their transition to civilian careers.

Having recently moved into Defence SA’s Defence and Space Landing Pad at Lot Fourteen, Actus is looking to tap into new opportunities within South Australia’s growing defence sector while investing in local veteran talent.

“With a significant Defence portfolio, it is essential to understand Defence requirements to provide our customers with the best possible product,” said Justin Cloney, Director of Operations at Actus and fellow Navy veteran.

“By having veterans in our team, we can avail their combined experience of nearly 65 years to enhance designs, build meaningful connections with Defence, and generally value add wherever possible.”

Actus currently employs three veterans in its Perth office and is looking to recruit a veteran for its new Adelaide team, with plans to grow its local workforce to 8 or more within the next 18 months.

“We have a real focus on providing opportunities for veterans transitioning to civilian life. As veterans, we recognise the skills, can-do attitude and professionalism that veterans bring to a workplace,” Justin said.

Veterans SA Director Bianca Wheeler commended Actus on their commitment to veteran employment.

“We are thrilled to welcome Actus to South Australia and commend their proactive approach to supporting veterans in their transition to civilian careers,” Ms Wheeler said.

“At Veterans SA, we are dedicated to fostering meaningful employment pathways for veterans and their families, and it’s fantastic to see businesses like Actus not only recognising the value of veteran experience but actively building their workforce around it.”

Actus joins the Veterans SA-led South Australian Veteran Employer Network, which connects like-minded employers to build relationships and promote the value of veteran and partner employment.
