Applications are now open for the 2025-26 Anzac Day Commemoration Fund with up to $100,000 available to support initiatives that honour Australia’s military history and the Anzac legacy.

Eligible ex-service organisations, community groups, local councils, and schools are invited to apply for a grant to deliver on a local project or initiative that honours Australia’s significant military contribution and sacrifice.

Under the previous round, 18 projects throughout the state received a total of $99,976 in grant funding including Naracoorte Lucindale Council which received $5,370 to construct 200 new, wooden commemorative crosses.

Honouring ex-servicemen and women, the cross installation is a highly respected feature at the Naracoorte War Memorial at annual Anzac Day and Remembrance Day services, however, the crosses had become tired after years of use and refurbishment.

The project was completed in time for Anzac Day, allowing the approximately 1,000 people who attended the Dawn Service to admire the newly crafted crosses manufactured by the Naracoorte Men’s Shed.

With its strong membership, the Men’s Shed – co-located on the grounds of the Naracoorte & District Sports Centre – provides a safe environment for men to come together and socialise whilst supporting community projects.

Constructing the timber crosses took approximately 200 hours including painting and priming.

Naracoorte Mayor, Patrick Ross, said the grant had ensured the crosses were a fitting tribute to those who have served.

“Council further strengthened its ongoing connections with the community through the delivery of this project in partnership with the Men’s Shed, ensuring the Naracoorte Anzac Day Dawn Service remains one of the most significant and well-attended community events on the local calendar,” he said.

Applications for the 2025-26 Anzac Day Commemoration Fund close at 5:00pm on Friday, 31 October 2025.
