Veterans and Defence families across South Australia have the chance to take the next step toward a successful future, with applications now open for the 2026 Veterans SA Career and Business Mentoring Program.
A proven initiative that helps participants turn their skills, experience and ideas into new career and business opportunities, the program connects mentees with experienced South Australian business leaders who provide personalised guidance, practical advice and valuable networks.
Now in its fifth year, the program has supported more than 60 participants to secure employment, grow businesses and expand their professional networks.
Running from March to October 2026, the program offers one-on-one mentoring, delivered through online workshops and practical sessions covering career planning, job search strategies, business development and entrepreneurship.
Veterans, current ADF members transitioning or planning to transition, reservists, partners and adult children of current of former-serving members are eligible to apply. Participants can choose between two streams: Career and Skills Development or Business Development and Entrepreneurship.
In the Career stream, participants set professional goals and build skills like networking, interview techniques and presentations. In the Business stream, they receive guidance on business models, financing and growth strategies.
South Australians from across the state’s business community are also invited to get involved as mentors including professionals with Defence backgrounds who are passionate about giving back and supporting others navigating life after service.
Applications for the 2026 Veterans SA Career and Business Mentoring Program close on 13 February 2026.

Transitioning out of Defence is about rethinking capability, veterans have incredible skills, but the civilian world can feel unfamiliar and overwhelming. Programs like this create a safe space for veterans to rediscover their strengths and translate them into new opportunities.
As a mentor, I see my role as a partnership built on trust and respect. It’s about listening, empowering and helping people recognise the value they already bring. Watching someone regain confidence and realise they can thrive beyond Defence is an absolute privilege.

Despite leaving full-time service years ago, I wasn’t confident talking about my Defence service. I joined the program to build confidence navigating another transition and it had a bigger impact than I expected. I gained real confidence, which helped me move into a new job and feel more positive about future transitions.
My mentor, Sharon, played a huge role – she created a safe space, genuinely listened and offered practical guidance. Her care and encouragement helped me see what’s possible. If you’re thinking about the program, don’t hesitate and don’t count yourself out.
