Bomber Command Commemorative Service at the Air Force Memorial, Torrens Parade Ground in 2025.

Thursday, 4th September 2025

Veterans SA invites the South Australian community to apply for a share in $70,000 in grant funding to improve outcomes for veterans and honour their valued service to the nation.

Applications are now open for the Capacity Building Grant Fund ($50,000 funding pool) and the Commemorative Services Grant Fund ($20,000 funding pool).

Under the Capacity Building Grant Fund, individual grants of up to $7,000 (an increase from $5,000 in 2024-25) are available to eligible organisations for projects that improve governance, strengthen capacity building skills, and enhance their ability to lead, support and advocate for veteran communities across South Australia.

Examples of eligible projects include:

  • leadership and governance training for board or committee members
  • training and skills development (e.g. grant writing, volunteer management, financial management, mental health first aid and military cultural awareness).

Applicants to the Commemorative Services Grant Fund can now apply for up to $2,000 (up from $1,000 in 2024-25) to support the cost to organisations for expenses related to delivering commemorative events in South Australia.

For the first time, the cost of bus hire to transport attendees to and from a commemorative service is included as an eligible expense under the Commemorative Services Grant Fund.

Veterans SA Director Bianca Wheeler said the total funding pool for both annual grant funds had increased for the 2025-26 funding round to support community led projects.

“South Australian organisations whose important work provides the essential wrap-around support to veterans and families in daily life deserve every opportunity to build their capacity to deliver services that are high-quality and veteran-friendly,” Ms Wheeler said.

“To help eligible organisations to do just that, Veterans SA has doubled the amount available in the Capacity Building Grant Fund to $50,000 and we look forward to seeing many more projects and programs underway across the state.

“Additionally, providing up to $2,000 to help pay for the costs associated with holding a commemorative event is a practical way to show appreciation for the hard work of those organisations committed to honouring our nation’s military history.”

Applications close on 15 May 2026 or sooner if funds are exhausted prior to this date.
