Australia Day Honours 2016

Awards are an integral part of Australia Day. They recognise and honour the outstanding achievement of Australians. Awards celebrate Australian excellence in our community.
Seven South Australians from the veteran community were honoured in this year’s Australia Day Honours. Those below were honoured for their commitment to veterans, their families and achievements for service within the Australian Defence Force.
OAM – Medal in the General Division
Mr Dean Raymond RYAN.
For service to veterans and their families.
AM – Member in the Military Division Australian Arm
Air Commodore Stephen Leslie Meredith
For exceptional service to the Royal Australian Air Force in capability sustainment.
OAM – Medal in the Military Division Australian Army
Warrant Officer Class One, Anthony Maxwell Hortle.
For meritorious service as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 16th Air Land Regiment and the School of Artillery.
Warrant Officer Class One, Michael Desmond Landy.
For meritorious service as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 31st/42nd Battalion, the Royal Queensland Regiment and the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment.
CSM – Conspicuous Service Medal
Sergeant Mark Angelo Biviano.
For meritorious achievement in the performance of duty as a Rifle Platoon Sergeant in the 7th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment.
Royal Australian Air Force
Flight Sergeant Gavin Todd Jones
For meritorious achievement in the improvement of aviation safety critical maintenance at Number 92 Wing.
Squadron Leader Stephen Peter Wellings
For meritorious devotion to duty as the Commanding Officer Combat Support Unit rotation 12 while deployed on Operation ACCODION.
