Bombing of Darwin Memorial Site
At 0958hrs on the 19th February, 1942, 242 Japanese aircraft attacked the City of Darwin. This was the first and largest single attach mounted by a foreign power on mainland Australia. At least 250 people, military and civilians, were killed, 300 to 400 were wounded; 20 military aircraft were destroyed and eight ships sunk in the two air raids on that day.
The Salisbury RSL Sub-Branch will be conducting a service to commemorate this event at the Memorial site located on Orange Ave, Salisbury.
