Veteran Mental Health Seminar for staff of ex-service organisations
Murray Bridge: Friday 16 August 11:00 – 2:00
Veterans who have mental health issues can find seeking support and accessing care difficult. Ex-service organisations play a central role in helping veterans to seek assistance and remain socially engaged. However, sometimes mental health issues can impact on their interaction with your service.
This educational seminar will provide an introduction to veteran mental health issues and practical skills for conducting conversations with people who are distressed and for working with families of veterans. The seminar will also provide an update on the latest veteran mental health research.
Who should attend?
This educational seminar is designed for non-mental health professionals (welfare officers, advocates, Legatees, activity coordinators, etc.) who work or volunteer within ex-service organisations
• Understanding mental health in veterans and an overview of the latest research
• How to manage risky, angry, or otherwise challenging clients
• How to work effectively with veterans’ families
• Making referrals and engaging with mental health professionals
• Looking after yourself.
