Events like regional shows and field days have proven to be a valuable outreach activity for Veterans SA as we can hear from veterans and their families first-hand, while connecting them with services and support that many are unaware are available to them.
Veterans SA is bringing essential services to veterans and their families in Adelaide’s north, with a presence at the 2023 Gawler Show on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August.
Over the two-day event, Veterans SA will be joined by a number of veteran service organisations, offering the local veteran community direct access to advocacy services, counselling and wellbeing support, family support, volunteering opportunities, higher education information and veteran concession and discount information.
With more than 14,000 people living in the Gawler and Barossa region currently or having previously served, the Gawler Show provides a unique opportunity to connect the region’s veteran population to local services.
Veterans SA Director Chantelle Bohan said the event’s proximity to RAAF Base Edinburgh was also a key factor in taking part in the event.
“We are hoping to engage with many local veteran and Defence families at the 2023 Gawler Show and hear directly from this growing community about issues of importance to them,” she said.
The Veterans SA Strategic Outlook has a strong focus on regional veterans and their families and includes a commitment to conduct regular community engagement activities in regional South Australia.
“Events like regional shows and field days have proven to be a valuable outreach activity for Veterans SA as we can hear from veterans and their families first-hand, while connecting them with services and support that many are unaware are available to them,” Ms Bohan said.
“We are pleased to offer the veteran community this fantastic opportunity to connect with our exhibiting partners face-to-face, and I encourage those attending the event to stop by the Veterans SA stand.”
Veterans SA will be joined at the Gawler Show by representatives from:
- Adelaide University Student Veteran Association
- Australian Partners of Defence
- Disaster Relief Australia
- Flinders University Military Academic Pathway Program
- Legacy Club of South Australia & Broken Hill
- Military and Emergency Services Health Australia
