It was particularly wonderful to see how the different members of our community used the whiteboards to express their gratitude for the care and support we provide to our veterans.
A special Veterans SA installation celebrating the contribution of veterans’ families has hit the road.
Affectionately known as ‘The Family’, the installation began taking shape during an activation at Elizabeth City Centre to mark Veterans’ Families Day in May. Community members wrote messages of thanks, shared reflections and tied ribbons to the display, creating a visual expression of gratitude and connection.
Following strong interest from veteran and community organisations, ‘The Family’ is continuing its journey with a road trip to host locations across Adelaide.
Each host will welcome the installation for up to two months, giving veterans, families, staff, visitors and local community members the opportunity to add their own ribbons and messages.
With every stop, the installation will grow and pass on new stories from one community to the next. The journey is set to highlight the many ways military service is experienced by families through deployments, relocations, uncertainty and change. It will also encourage conversations about the strength, resilience and contribution of veteran families.
One of the first stops was RSL Care SA’s War Veterans Home at Myrtle Bank, where residents, families, staff and visitors warmly welcomed the installation and added their own messages.
RSL Care SA Chief Executive Officer Nathan Klinge said the installation was well received by the community.
“RSL Care SA was delighted to host ‘The Family’ for a stay at our War Veterans Home in Myrtle Bank,” said Mr Klinge.
“It was particularly wonderful to see how the different members of our community used the whiteboards to express their gratitude for the care and support we provide to our veterans. The display was enjoyed by all.”
The Family has since travelled north and is currently on display at the Lives Lived Well Northern Hub in Elizabeth Vale. Visitors are invited to stop by and tie a ribbon in celebration of their connection to the veteran community.
More destinations will follow, and Veterans SA will be sharing photos and stories from the people and organisations connecting with the installation on its journey.
