Fourteen South Australian councils, schools, community and ex-service organisations have been selected to receive funding through the Federal Government’s ongoing Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.

In this round, 91 projects from around the country will each receive a share in $1.68 million grant fund.

South Australian projects account for $227,000 of this funding, including $150,000 that has been awarded to the Yorke Peninsula Council to build a Vietnam War Memorial Walk commemorating all Australian units posted to the Vietnam conflict.

Other successful South Australian submissions include refurbishing war monuments, constructing a new war memorial, installing military memorabilia and revitalising memorial and reflection areas.

The Saluting their Service Commemorative Grants Program is and ongoing program that delivers Community Grants up to $10,000 and Major Grants up to $150,000.

South Australia recipients – Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants 2023-24, Batch 3:

  • Playford Primary School – Restoring existing bench seats in the remembrance memorial garden and reflection area.
  • RSL Care South Australia Inc. – Installing military memorabilia display cabinets in the Morlancourt Aged Care facility in Angle Park.
  • Broughton Plains Heritage Society – Constructing a new war memorial at Nurom.
  • Copper Coast Council – Refurbishing war monuments at Victoria Square in Kadina.
  • Marion Bay Township Inc.- Installing two flagpoles at the memorial wall at Marion Bay next to the museum.
  • Mount Torrens Soldiers Memorial Inc. – Reinstating the flag pole and memorial feature at the 100-year-old community owned Soldiers Memorial Hall in Mount Torrens.
  • RSL Semaphore and Port Adelaide Sub Branch Inc. – The design, manufacture and supply of a multi-function display cabinet, including adjustable shelving and dimmable LED downlights.
  • RSL Semaphore and Port Adelaide Sub Branch Inc. – Updating memorial rolls and honour boards within the Semaphore and Port Adelaide RSL with names of past members.
  • RSLA Nurioopta Sub Branch – Installing two new display cabinets to allow items from campaigns/theatres such as East Timor, Afghanistan, Iraq (both Gulf Wars), and the numerous peace keeping missions that Australian veterans have been involved in to be displayed.
  • School of the Nativity School Board – Restoring a memorial garden to commemorate locals who served in the First World War.
  • Sedan Hall Inc – Upgrading the flagpole at Sedan Hall.
  • Vietnam Veterans Associate of Australia South Australian Branch Inc. – Installing a memorial plinth on the Pathway of Honour in Adelaide.
  • Yaninee Public Hall Inc. – Restoring the Yaninee Institute’s honour roll in preparation for its 100th birthday celebration in March 2025.
  • Yorke Peninsula Council – Building a Vietnam War Memorial Walk to commemorate all Australian units posted to the Vietnam conflict.
