Last week saw the launch of the 2025 Veterans SA Career and Business Mentoring Program.

Held at Plant 4 Bowden, the event welcomed the program’s largest intake ever, with 26 pairs of mentors and mentees taking part this year.

Now in its fourth year, the Veterans SA Career and Business Mentoring Program connects members of the veteran community – including veterans, ADF Reservists and partners of current and former Defence members with South Australian business leaders.

Participants are provided access to monthly online workshops featuring expert guest speakers and program alumni covering topics including changing mindset, career transition, finding purpose, skills translation, job seeking tips, business support advice and networking.

During the launch event participants heard from Amanda McCue a career development practitioner who spoke about the initial stages of transitioning from the ADF and the breadth of careers available to veterans and their families.

Amanda’s workshop identified the barriers that may stand between a career change while identifying the support and resources available to assist in what can be a hard to navigate transition.

Veterans SA Director Bianca Wheeler said the program’s continued growth reflected the success and impact it was having for both mentors and mentees.

“We know post-service life can bring challenges in defining career and business goals. Our mentoring program is specifically designed to help participants successfully navigate this path,” she said.

“Participants consistently find new jobs, win scholarships, and even start businesses, emerging with greater confidence, clarity and purpose.”

“Each year we hear of more mentors continuing with their mentees after the program as they form genuine connections and gain valuable insights into the unique skills and expertise veterans can bring to their organisations”.

The success of the program which has now supported almost 100 veterans in their career journeys is a testament to the importance of ensuring the South Australian veteran community have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
