A poem from the battlefield

Tuesday 7 January, 2020

The below poem is written for a soldier from a comrade in September 1916 when they were stationed in Rouen, France in World War 1.

If we noticed little pleasures

As we noticed little pains

If we quite forgot our losses

And remembered all our gains

If we looked for peoples virtues

And their faults refused to see

What a comfortable happy

Cheerful place this world would be
